They are nearly automatic by now because of long practice, but if the problem, challenge, or statement is too emotional, I may have to go through the exercise consciously. Some of those questions may be:

- Can this statement be falsified, i.e., is there a set a of possible circumstances that would disprove it? If I can't imagine any, then it's probably not a useful statement.

- Is there a way I can turn this problem into a resource? Can I imagine a set of circumstances where the problem would become an advantage? Or does the problem come with effects that are beneficial? Extremely helpful for problem-solving.

- If I'm inclined to agree with a thesis or statement, does it seem too good to be true? Am I agreeing simply because it is comforting? Can I examine this from someone else's perspective (play devil's advocate) and find counter-arguments? This is also extremely useful for shoring up good ideas and make them better.Sophie Lagacénoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2352648376305239677.post-44871205161447370452010-08-01T10:13:28.000-04:002010-08-01T10:13:28.000-04:00There's no more important skill to be teaching...There's no more important skill to be teaching our children nowadays.
Thank you for sharing.SpiritualAtheisthttp://www.spiritualatheist.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2352648376305239677.post-58345895061762984992010-08-02T14:11:55.000-04:002010-08-02T14:11:55.000-04:00I agree, it's vitally important.
