Technically, the insertion of "under god" did not indicate a christian nation. The would have required the insertion of "under jesus" or "under christ". "Under god" just broadens the number of superstitious boneheads who feel they have to stuff their beliefs down our throats.

You are quite correct, Dee. It was just a way to clearly show that we didn't used to say "under god" before the 50's. It's simply one example from before the McCarthy era that shows that we didn't worship god in our pledge of allegiance, at least. Of course when it was added in, it was assumed that god stood for the judeo-christian one, not Zeus or Allah, of course. It was added to show that we weren't godless commies.
